Time for charity

Newspost

March 26, 2020

According to the Stanford Social Innovation Review report, Pakistan spends more than one percent of GDP on charity which is higher than many wealthier countries. In the present testing times, when the country’s economy has been hit by the corona pandemic, the importance of CSR has increased manifold. There is no dearth of hearts filled with love for humanity in this country. The need of the hour is to rise to the occasion and release funds to feed the poor daily-wagers and jobless people comprising the millions of population spread all over the country.

It would be appropriate to use the channel of union councils to register the unemployed and needy and ensure provision of daily two meals to them through welfare committees of areas. The horrible fear of corona andthe drastic grip of hunger encompassing the majority of the country may cause collateral damage to the lowest segment of our society. We must control the pandemic as early as possible with our collective efforts. Political parties must devise measures to reach the bottom level of society and bring awareness to them as well as ensure food for them, when they have no work to do. Nations are built during odd times and those who sustain the melting point come out with success. God bless our country.
